To Ride up nort…
24 NovTo Ride up north Himalaya‘s a Dream since childhood.
Planning and Preparing for this since 2009. Discussing route, Pit stops, Tyre, Engine conditions, Things to carry, what to were….. Did serial rounds for years.. A friend Arjun and i sat at mecca and had lengthy discussions about this for hours and hours. Arjun and i have been friends for about 8 yrs now and we both have riding in common. in 2008 he did the ride to Himalaya’s with his friend, i was in delhi working those days and i did try my best to join him, with a tight schedule at work and series of events could not make it but became a host and treated the visitors in Delhi with some nice kebabs and local visits. My Delhi thing wound up and i returned to Bangalore, ever since this close encounter, the Himalayan ride was in my mind and wanted to desperately do this. its like a personal best achievement My Wish List….. Arjun and i started to put things into places and decided to do the ride in 2009. I had my Yamaha Rx 135 and his a Hero Honda Karisma, we set things in place got the bikes ready to travel and thought about the engine and other technicalities we would need to be worried about, basic how to put a puncture, brakes & cable changing……. As days passed we did find something new and important for the ride. One day i totally got convinced the doing a ride with my 135cc would be hard as i wanted to ride about 7 – 8k kms… and decided to go for a Royal Enfield as this is the most trusted bike up there. Went to a enfield showroom and looked for the which one to buy… My Main purpose is long rides or cruiser. Those days RE was about launch a new model the classic in 500 & 350 cc….. As i was looking at having a mean machine i choose for the classic 500. Remember Elvis and i went for a test drive and the bike was so powerful and easy to handle we both fell for it. RE had limited production and so i was asked to wait a good 9 months before i get to own one. All my attempts to get the bike fast went wasted and no way i could get the bike before the scheduled delivery date. In Nov 2010 i received a call from the RE showroom that my bike is ready for delivery and i can complete the payment process and posses it. I was really happy with the news and informed all my friends specially Arjun and Elvis and my family. i picked up a handy loan and got the bike paper work completed. and since it was end of 2010, i wanted to wait a month and pick up in Jan 2011. Finally in the 3rd week of Jan 2011 i received the delivery of my most awaited bike. I am Now a Proud RE Owner……. The bike was a monster and i enjoyed the attention on roads and people chatting about my bike were ever it was parked. As it was one of the few RE Classic 500′s in town. Now that i owned a bike that can take me to places i spoke to people about doing rides together. At first i had a lot of em nodding and expressing there wish on how badly they wanted to do this ride was years. but later all bogus and all backed out. For Arjun things had changed and he had joined a job recently and was working pretty sincerely… I found some local RE enthusiasts and planned a few short rides. Post my Great Escape… The monster and me both took a few months to recover.. as far as the monster i had managed to damage the chassis and the front fork was compleatly out with the head open like an earthquake… While the insurance was fizzy and the guy i new who has a garage was an utmost idiot of sorts he slept over on the bike issue and took almost 4 months to put it back in shape, sometime these garage guys just want to see an make money. they don’t even know that they will loose a relationship with a friend or a customer.. By Late July i got my bike in riding conditions and the devil in me planned for another ride quickly.. this time the garage guy was also participating and wanted to do this ride.. i nodded along as i was desperate to for the ride.. We did a mini ride to Coorg — The Kashmir of Karnataka… with the garage boy and few of his assistants an a few fellow bikers… I met Sidhu Saab, Fahad on this ride…
